Seven new faces in Nepalese squad for Asian Cup Qualifiers

KATHMANDU: The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has announced a 23-member squad for the AFC Women's Asia Cup qualifiers, comprising seven new players. The training team, led by Gary Phillips, has included seven players for the first time in next month's qualifiers against Hong Kong and the Philippines. Midfielder Preeti Rai, forward Sabita Rana, Rashmi Ghising, Rajni Thokar, defender Bimala BK, Nisha Thokar and Srijana Singh are in the team for the first time. Along with Amisha Karki, veteran defender Anchali Waiba, forward Sharmila Thapa Magar, Hema Chaudhary and Manisha Raut could not make the final selection. Reigning iLeague champion Gokulam Kerala FC has signed Nepali coach Manish Timsina as goalkeeping coach for the next season. Timsina, 33, who attended the AFC A- coaching certificate course, signed a contract for the 2021-22 season on Monday. According to the agreement, he will remain with the club until the end of May 2022. This is the first time that any Nepali coach has joined the iLeague team. India to play friendly for the first time in Nepal

The Indian National Football Team is set to play its first international friendly in Nepal. The All Nepal Football Association on Friday confirmed that India will play two friendly matches. The match will be played on September 2 and 5, 2021 at the Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu. The two national teams played against each other 19 times, of which the Indian team won 13 times. Nepal has beaten India twice, the most recent being a 2-1 victory in the 2013 SAFF Championship in Kathmandu. Both sides are currently preparing for the upcoming SAFF Championship.
