Sukra defends Surya Nepal Central Open title

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepal No 1 pro-Sukra Bahadur Rai defended the title of the Surya Nepal Central Open, the fifth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2022-23, at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club on Friday. Sukra carded two-under 70 in the final round for the 72-hole total of 23-under 265, which equaled the record set by India’s Shamim Khan in the 2008 Surya Nepal Masters. Sukra also set the new course record of 11-under 61 in the second round of the tournament. Sukra recorded a four-stroke victory over Bhuvan Nagarkoti, who carded four under 68 in the final round for a total score of 19-under 269. Seventh-ranked Dinesh outplayed 13th-ranked Ramesh Adhikari 7&6 in the 36-hole final match to win the third event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2022-23. The victory means, Dinesh claimed his maiden major title in the Tour and received a winner's cheque of Rs 60,000. Likewise, runner-up, Ramesh was rewarded with Rs 42,000. By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - The third event under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2022-23, Surya Nepal NPGA Match play will commence on Tuesday at Royal Nepal Golf Club. The top 16 professionals from the order of merit of season 2019-20 are qualified for the match play event, going to be held from January 24 to 26, 2023. All match-play events will be over 18 holes except the final, which will be played over 36 holes. The eight matches of the first round will be played on the opening day.
