Gunraj and Denika bags Bronze in World Muay Thai

By a Staff Reporter Nepali Martial Artists Gunraj Ruchal and Denika Rai bagged bronze in the 17th World Muay Thai Competition held from 16 to 23rd November in Thailand. Gunraj suffered a defeat against Uzbekistan's player in the second round of the semifinal due to a medical injury, which limited him only to the bronze. Denki, who vied directly in the semi-final lost to Uzbekistan's player on the basis of points. Players from 20 nations participated in a week-long competition.

14-year-old Batas clinched two medals in IFMA World Youth Games

By a Staff Reporter 14-year-old Martial Artist Prapti Batas clinched a silver and a bronze medal in the IFMA World Youth Games 2022 held in Malaysia from August 9-20, 2022.   Prapti, who has been training and fighting in Gymkhana Muay Thai won a Silver Medal at the IFMA Grand Slam (12-15 years) under 51kgs and a Bronze Medal in the (14-15years) 51 kgs category. Nepali players to compete in Asian Cadet Judo Championship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - An eight-member Nepali judo team has left for Thailand to take part in the Asian Cadet and Junior Judo Championship to be held from July 17-23.     The eight-member team includes four players and four officials including team leader and Nepal Judo Association President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya, who is also the education and coaching commission member of the Judo Union of Asia.Uttam Pradhan Shrestha will compete in the U-60 junior boys category while Tara Bahadur Bhujel will take part in the U-55 kg cadet boys section. By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepali wushu players Neema Gharti Magar and Deepak Hamal have been selected for the World Games 2022. The two players will represent Nepal during the games to be held in Alabama, USA from July 7 to 17. Nepal Wushu Association confirmed the participation of SAG gold medalist Neema Gharti Magar and Deepak Hamal. The association informed that the duo were selected by the World Wushu Federation and World Games Federation on the basis of their performance in international tournaments and their world ranking. Para judo players mark World Environment Day

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepal Deaf and Blind Para Judo Association marked the World Environment Day on June 5 by organizing various programmes. Officials of the association, para judo athletes, Austria’s Olympian Sabrina who featured in the mega sporting event four times and also scaled Mount Everest, were involved in the clean-up of the New Baneshwar-based hostel of Deaf School, Naxal. They also planted trees on the occasion, according to Dharma Kumar Shrestha, senior vice president of the association who is also the general secretary of Nepal Judo Association. The hostel has a judo hall where Olympian Sabrina briefed the para athletes about World Environment Day.

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Prashant Shrestha secured gold medal in the boys’ 40-50 kg category of deaf judo held under the Inter Deaf Judo Championship on Sunday. Likewise, Rishiman Shrama clinched gold in the boys’ 50-60 kg category during the match held in New Baneshwar. In the women’s section, Sony Shah won gold in 30-40 kg category. Nepal declared team champion in karate championship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepal has been declared team champions during the 13th NSKA Karate Championship held in Kathmandu. Nepal finished first with 40 gold medals in the event held at the covered hall of the Tripureshwar-based National Sports Council. Indian Sotokan Karate Kolkata finished a distant second with 3 golds while TSRKKO secured the third position with 2 golds. The tournament was organized by Nepal Sotokan Karate Association. Nepal’s Pradeep Rai and Angela Dongol were adjudged the best players in male and female categories respectively. NSC Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising handed over the prizes to the winners amid a function on Thursday. A total of 600 players had participated in 46 different categories of the event.

Nepal bags 3 gold medals in WUMA kung-fu championship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepali kung-fu players secured three gold medals in the WUMA (World Unified Martial Arts) European Championship in the UK. Nepali player Sanjay Putuwar won two gold medals while Bhupendra Gurung clinched one in the championship that kicked off on May 15. Nepal WUMA Kung-fu Association’s President Siddhartha Lama is also in the UK and is assuming the role of an official as well as a judge during the championship. Altogether 550 players from 50 different nations are competing in the event, informed Lama. Lama assumed the role of a judge in the matches featuring players from Denmark, Germany, Thailand and the USA.

WUMA Kung-fu team to compete in European Championship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - A three member Nepali kung-fu team including two players is all set to participate in the World Unified Martial Arts (WUMA) European Championship which will kick off in England on May 15. The championship will feature competition in various martial arts disciplines. The two players representing Nepal are Sanjay Raj Putuwar and Bhupendra Gurung. Nepal WUMA Kung-fu Association’s President Siddhartha Lama is also in the team and will take the role of an official as well as a judge during the championship. Bhupendra Gurung is scheduled to leave for England on Friday while the rest of the team will take off on Saturday. The team was bade farewell by officials of Nepal WUMA Kung-fu Association amid a function at Basundhara on Thursday.
