By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - The women’s volleyball team of Nepal lifted the title of AVC Central Zone Championship but the men’s team had to return home empty handed after losing the third-place playoff to Uzbekistan in straight sets. Nepal lost the match to Uzbekistan 25-15, 25-17, 25-22 during their  match held in Mirpur, Dhaka on Tuesday. Two years ago, Nepal had crashed out from the group stage. Nepal defeated Uzbekistan in the second edition of the championship held in Bangladesh on Tuesday to retain the title. Nepal were unbeaten throughout the championship. During the title clash held in Mirpur, Dhaka, Nepal saw off Uzbekistan 3-2 in a five-set match. Nepal won the match with a score of 26-24, 24-26, 25-15, 22-25 and 15-10. Defending champions Nepal defeated Uzbekistan in straight sets during their match held in  Mirpur, Dhaka on  Sunday. Unbeaten Nepal claimed the first set 25-20. The second set was competitive but Nepal prevailed over their opponents with a 25-23 win. Taking the third set 25-14, Nepal qualified for the final with one round-robin match remaining. Nepal defeated the Maldives in straight sets of 3-0 during the match held in Mirpur, Dhaka. Although Nepal maintained the lead from the beginning, they had to struggle to win the first set 27-25. Nepal won the second set 25-19 and the third set 25-23 to complete the rout. This is the second victory of Nepal during the championship. Nepal bounced back from a first set defeat to beat Uzbekistan in 3-1 sets in course of registering their first victory in the championship underway in Bangladesh. Nepal had lost the first set 18-25 but bounced back to win the second set 25-21 and third set 25-18 with ease. The last set was a tough fight in which Nepal prevailed over Uzbekistan with a score of 25-23. Earlier, Nepal had lost their opening match against hosts Bangladesh in straight sets. They were present in the team that beat Sri Lanka in 3-2 sets during the opening match on Thursday. Kamana Bista played the first set of the match while Shanti Tharu took her place in their debut match. Both the players were included in the national team for the first time.
