Nepal to face Bangladesh today

By a Staff Reporter

Kathmandu – Nepal National Football Team is set to face Bangladesh in an International Friendly in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

The match will kick off at 5:30 PM in Dashrath Stadium. Nepal who has not lost any games against Bangladesh in the last two years will step into the field to continue the streak. However, Bangladesh aims to register a win over Nepal for the first time in two years.

Nepal and Bangladesh last met at SAFF Championship in Maldives where both the teams shared a spoil. Bangladesh took the lead in the 9th minute. Anjan Bista then equalized for Nepal in the 88th minute through a spot kick.

Before facing Bangladesh in the SAFF, Nepal played against Bangladesh in the Three Nations Cup held on March 2021 in Kathmandu where Nepal played a goalless draw against the visitors in the league stage.

Kyrgyzstan U-23 and Bangladesh participated in the tournament. Bangladesh defeated Kyrgyzstan and drew Nepal to qualify for the finals whereas Nepal drew both matches ad marched on to the finals.

In the final, Nepal defeated Bangladesh 2-1 to be crowned champions of the Three Nations Cup. A goal from Sanjok Rai and Bishal Rai was enough for the hosts to bag the title. Mahbubur Rahman Sufil scored a consolation for Bangladesh.

Kiran Chemjong will lead the team. Acting coach Pradip Humagain has included senior players who were ruled out from the National team by the then head coach Abdullah Almutairi following the conflict between him and the players.

While Ritik Khadka and Martyr’s Memorial ‘B’ Division League Most Valuable Player Aashish Chaudhary made it to the National team for the first time, Nawayug Shrestha has been left out.

Axing off one outfield player’s spot, Humagain included four goalkeepers in the 23-men squad. Regular right-back Gautam Shrestha and Winger Sunil Bal are forced to stay out of the team due to injuries.

Yugal Kishor Rai is the assistant coach and Binod Dangol is the goal-keeping coach of the team. ANFA has given the responsibility of team manager to Anil Shrestha.
