Sunmaya Budha wins ultra race in Thailand, Mira Rai finishes second

Kathmandu – Sunmaya Budha secured the first position in one of the biggest ultra races of Asia on Thursday. Budha won the title in the women’s section of the ultra race held in Thailand featuring more than 2000 participants.

She completed the 110-kilometer ultra race in  14 hours 54 minutes and 01 seconds to win the title. Another long distance runner of Nepal, Mira Rai, finished second in the same category. Rai completed the ultra race in 17 hours 12 minutes and 48 seconds. Similarly, Thailand’s Pichomane Raksul finished a distant third with a timing of 23 hours 54 minutes and 48 seconds.

Along with the title, Budha also bagged a purse of 50,000 Bhat (approximately Rs 180,000). Budha is associated with the North Face Adventure Team. Likewise, second-placed Rai bagged a purse of 40,000 Bhat (Rs 145,000).

Budha was ahead of Rai by almost 2 hours. She was behind second placed players in the men’s section – Sederic Golaya – by just 4 seconds. She had given a tough competition to Sederic in the last one kilometer stretch.

Budha attributed her victory to the relentless support from her team.

“I am very happy. I performed exceptionally well because of the support I received from by team members,” said Budha after the victory. “I would like to thank by new sponsors The North Face and Corosa.”
