Kathmandu – Vietnam dominated Nepal in the Asian Qualifiers (First Round) of the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024, hammering the hosts 5-1 at Dasarath Stadium on Wednesday.

The Vietnamese team took a comfortable 3-0 lead before the halftime break and added two more goals in the second half. Nepal’s Sabitra Bhandari managed to score a consolation goal but it was not enough to stop Vietnam’s impressive performance.

Pham Hai Yen opened the scoring for Vietnam in the 11th minute, and captain Huynh Nhu doubled the lead from the spot kick in the 35th minute. Three minutes later, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy extended Vietnam’s lead to 3-0.

The second half saw Vietnam continue its dominance, with Captain Huynh scoring her second goal of the match three minutes after coming from the break. Moreover, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha, who came off the bench, scored Vietnam’s fifth goal in the first minute of injury time.

Nepal managed to pull one back through Sabitra Bhandari in the 79th minute, but it was too little too late as Vietnam emerged victorious with a comfortable win.

This result puts Vietnam in a strong position in the group stage, while Nepal will need to regroup quickly to bounce back in its next match.
